Alhambra High School’s Interact Club Invites You!
We will be hosting the first annual District 5160 Interact Bocce Ball Tournament on May 19, 2012 from 11am-2pm(ish) at the Martinez Marina Bocce Ball Courts (Courtesy of the Martinez Bocce Federation). Join us for a fun afternoon of Bocce and BBQ. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to play! Bocce ball is quick and easy to learn and is a lot of fun to play! We will be giving a short tutorial at 11am to go over rules. Each club can send up to 3 teams consisting of 3 players each. Every team must have its own team name and some sort of uniform! (Be creative!) Tickets are $15 per player and include a BBQ lunch. The winning team will get a trophy and a years worth of bragging rights! All proceeds will benefit the Little Flock Orphanage Homes in India. Please RSVP by Friday May 11th by contacting David Retta at little_d2157@yahoo.com or 925-300-7805. Little Flock: Transforming the Lives of Orphans

When love, faith and service come together, lives are changed and healing begins.”

At Little Flock Orphanage, healing happens every day. Since 2006 this home near Chennai, India has rescued orphaned children from grinding poverty and provided them with shelter, food, medical treatment, and educational opportunities. Forty-eight children currently live there. Little Flock Village is also open to widows, who can serve as honorary mothers for the children.

Why is this project so important? India is currently home to about 12.4 million orphans, including the largest number of AIDS orphans in the entire world. Children who lose one or both of their parents are at high risk of falling victim to trafficking, child labor or bonded servitude. The country’s children are desperate for help from organizations such as Little Flock.

With the help of donations from generous people like Interactors and Rotarians, Little Flock hopes to build a community center that will provide the village people with much-needed services including medical and dental care, vocational training, English classes, tutoring, and a library. They are in the process of constructing a dining treatment and schooling.

Interact 5160 is proud to announce that we are adopting Little Flock Orphanage as this year’s district- wide international service project. In the spirit of “service above self,” we are committed to changing lives by giving as much support as possible to this worthy organization that is making a difference in its community and the world.

“As Americans we tend to focus on ourselves and what’s going on around us, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but things like Little Flock really give us a chance to see how the other side lives,” said Ezekiel Starling, an Interact District Council service project coordinator. “We’re not only improving others’ lives but enriching our own.”

Black and White

The Fourth Annual Black and White Dance will be held on Friday, March 16th from 7pm-11pm. The dance is at Berkeley City Club. Attire is semi-formal, singles wear black and people in relationships wear white. Tickets are on sale now. They are $15 from now to 2/25, $20 from 2/26-3/15, and $25 at the door. There will be light appetizers!

District Council would like to welcome you to our BRAND NEW WEBSITE DESIGN. We hope with this modification the site will be easier to navigate and hopefully tie the District together. Is this a bit ambitious? Why yes. Are we hopeful? Very much so, and we know with everyone’s help we can transform our clubs and take our district to greater heights!
