In Area 11, Cal High Interact will be kicking off the month of February by attending Pine Valley Middle School’s Diversity Fair (Feb. 3rd) and running a booth to promote Interact to middle school students, spreading word of Rotary’s international impact. The following day (Feb. 4th), the club will have their Stop Hunger Now food packing event, which will also include Rotarian volunteers. Assuming the weather remains fair, they will hold the Contra Costa County Community Food Bank Food Drive on February 11th and 19th. Montevista Interact has planned to partake in a fundraiser for the Wheelchair Foundation. The San Ramon Valley club plans to continue their clothing drive for One Closet, sending off Valentine’s Day cards that they wrote to the children’s hospital, help Cal High Interact with their Food Drive, and support their school’s Make a Wish Club with their Valentine’s Day fundraiser. Likewise, Doughetry Interact plans to partake in the annual Danville Crab feed, help at a live oak father daughter dance, and hold a Chipotle fundraiser.
During December 2nd, Area 11 had their first social with icebreakers, concessions and a movie. The proceeds from the food all went to the district project. California High School has started to help their Rotary club in the Christmas Tree lot. They also took part in adopting a seven member family, all with various needs. The Monte Vista club did a similar gift giving event with a local nursery. Dougherty Valley is holding a T4 fundraiser and a toy drive. Furthermore, they plan to help out at the Empire Santa Party in Danville and send cards for soldiers. Likewise, San Ramon Valley will be doing two senior nights: one at the Brookdale Diablo Lodge and one at Brookdale San Ramon. They will sing Christmas carols, play games, and socialize with the residents. They will also be helping Cal high by participating in their Chipotle fundraiser for End Polio.
For the month of November, Area 11 will be planning their movie night and the Culture Fair at California High School. Dougherty Valley and Monte Vista High will have a Cards for Soldiers Drive to send holiday cards for those coming home from service. However, DVHS will also be holding a Christmas Drive to donate gifts for Native American children. San Ramon Valley High will be holding a canned food drive to give to poverty stricken neighborhoods. California High will have a Polio presentation and volunteer for the Miss Contra Costa County Pageant.
It’s been about month into the school year, and each of Area 11’s Interact clubs are just beginning to organize themselves and begin activities.California High School will participate in the Heart Walk by volunteering and through their own community Interact Team. Also, they will volunteer in Primo’s Run and club fair. Monte Vista had their Club Fair and gained around 50 new sign ups. They will have meetings every Friday and their first event will be a backpack drive. San Ramon Valley High had their first club meeting this past Tuesday, preceding their club fair. They had a good turn-out with about 50 people. They haven’t had any events thus far, but later in October, they will participate in the heart walk, help decorate the school for red ribbon week and do a drive (likely for ARF). They are also in the midst of planning events and fundraisers.
It’s the beginning of the school year and Interactors are starting to join Area 11. California High will be holding a school supplies drive (“Pack” to School Drive) to donate to underprivileged students throughout the rest of August and the month of September. For the month of September, Cal High Interactors will be volunteering at Danville D’elegance (Sept. 17th-18th), a car show that raises money to fund research in order to combat Parkinson’s Disease. They will be Volunteering at the Veteran Victory Velo (V3) Hopfest (Sept. 14th-18th), an event that benefits Sentinels of Freedom and the DVSR Rotary Foundation. Then, of course, there’s District Kick-Off! Aside from these events, this Interact club is looking into holding a fundraiser for either the club or the district project some time this month. Monte Vista High School is doing a backpack drive this month. Their first meeting is on Thursday next week. Dougherty Valley High will have an officer meeting on Thursday, and will be setting the date for their first member meeting. At San Ramon Valley, on August 8th, the officers attended the Rotary meeting for an induction ceremony where they were sworn in by a retired judge. They’ve also had a meeting to discuss the school year/events and their first event will be decorating their school for Red Ribbon Week in September.
