December Updates

California High School

Cal High Interact had a wonderful end to 2017. Out of over 140 participants, our submission for the Interact Video Awards was selected as one of eight finalists! Our blanket drive event came to a close, and we were thrilled to donate the blankets to homeless shelters in San Jose. We also completed another successful Rotary Christmas Tree Lot filled with selling wreaths and trees and making ornaments with children. The holiday spirit continued, however, with our event at Alcosta Senior Center. We wrapped presents for senior citizens to spread more holiday cheer in our community. Finally, we had a fundraiser at Dos Coyotes Border Café.

Dougherty Valley High School

During December, DVHS Interact had its first bonding event of the year, allowing Interactors to meet each other while enjoying a movie and refreshments together. We had several volunteering events, including Christmas caroling at the Veterans Hospital in Livermore. We also had a successful holiday card fundraiser, selling cards to students and Rotarians. We’re continuing to prepare for the Area 11 dog toy workshop next semester, as well as District Retreat and an Area 11 Culture Fest.

San Ramon Valley High School

During the month of December, SRVHS Interact got ready for our January events and we got our member t-shirts!

November Updates

In the month of November, the Area 11 clubs came together for their first area event! The Interactors went to Dublin Iceland to play broomball, a game that is similar to ice hockey but is unique in that players wear sneakers instead of ice skates. The attendees enjoyed getting to know one another and had a blast at the event!

California High School

Cal High Interact continues to support fantastic projects in the month of November. Volunteers facilitated the Miss Contra Costa beauty pageant which offers scholarships for higher education! Club members could also be seen at work at the End Polio Now 5k Run, learning at District 5160 Conference, or acting as victims to help the San Ramon Valley CERT program training. The club is keeping a warm heart during this colder weather, too! A member’s initiative has led to a blanket drive that will continue through December. Donations will be sent to the homeless in San José, bringing everyone some comfort this season. Finally, the San Ramon Rotary Christmas Tree Lot is in high gear! Interactors will be ambassadors for selling trees and wreaths in addition to making ornaments with children who visit. This event is definitely not one to miss, so make a stop and spread the cheer by saying a hello to Cal High Interact!

Dougherty Valley High School

This month, we focused on spreading holiday cheer to our local communities! We continued our Cards for Soldiers drive and also held a workshop where members could drop by and create simple and sweet cards for our service members! We are also partnering with our school’s PTSA to hold a toy drive for our sister school in need in Oakland. Our commitment to serving the community during the holiday season doesn’t end here! We have a load of holiday service events and fundraisers coming up in December, so look out for next month’s area update!

Monte Vista High School

This month, Monte Vista Interact had a successful meeting where members participated in a card making activity. We made holiday cards for servicemen and servicewomen and delivered them to Blue Star Moms. We were fortunate enough to have a Blue Star Mom attend our meeting and speak about the program. In addition to the holiday cards, we are collecting warm coats. The project will continue into early January. We also are participating in adopt and angel where each member buys gifts for their toddler. We assigned angels to each of our members and have begun collecting gifts.

San Ramon Valley High School

In the month of November SRVHS Interact was busy with their annual food drive for the Contra Costa and Solano County Food Bank. SRVHS Interact also hosted their first ever joint meeting with Danville Rotary.

San Ramon Valley Community

This month we are still collecting toys, and are going to start packing them on the 10th! We had 2 fundraisers: A 2 day T4 fundraiser and a Menchies Yogurt Fundraiser! Our goal is 360 toys, and we are definitely looking forward to spreading the holiday spirit at the Stanford Children’s Hospital on December 22! We also conducted our Senior Breakfast at the beginning of the month, where we served breakfast to the seniors and also helped them with their technology. It was a success!

October Updates

California High School

The club kicked off the month of October by participating the SRVUSD Run for Education. Students helped distribute auction prizes and had a strong showing at the event itself. This was was a great way for the club to support the community! Interactors also volunteered at the Bay Area Heart Walk by handing out snacks and refreshments to participants. Finally, club members got to participate in seeing their crayon donations be transformed at the Crayon Initiative melting event. Sorted by color and remelted, they were given a new life! The club also has been adding posts to its newly integrated blog. We look forward to what the next month has to offer!

Dougherty Valley High School

This month, Dougherty Valley Interact had a great mix of service events, guest speakers, and fundraisers! Interactors lended a helping hand in selling raffle tickets to raise money for the Blackhawk Museum, painting a giant map of the USA at Creekside Elementary, and making holiday cards for service members in the army for our ongoing Blue Star Moms Cards drive. We also had the opportunity to hear from the Islamic Network Group and DVHS Interact’s first president, Chris Jo! We are looking forward to attending District Conference and holding many other events for our members!

Monte Vista High School

This month Monte Vista Interact had their first official Interact meeting in the gym. We had over 60 students turn in applications for the club. The officers met with our Rotary advisor and discussed events for the year such as food drive, soup kitchen volunteering and many more. Our first activity will be making cards for servicemen and servicewomen at the next meeting which will be next week. A local Blue Star Mom will be attending the meeting and will talk about what she does. We are looking forward to the District Conference and the other upcoming service projects!

San Ramon Valley High School

San Ramon Valley Community

This month, SRV Community is continuing to promote our Christmas Toy Drive, with drop off stations at Target, one of the member’s houses, as well as Hidden Hills Elementary School starting November 6th. The drive will continue until December 10th, and on December 22nd, we will go to the Lucile Stanford Hospital and give the gifts. We have already raised $120 to buy gifts, with 60 additional toys collected. In addition, our senior breakfast is coming up this weekend!

September Updates

Dougherty Valley HS

Dougherty Valley Interact kicked off the new school year with action-packed service events that helped out the local community! First, we joined our Rotary Club in building a wheelchair-accessible ramp for the greenhouse at Sunflower Hill Gardens in Livermore. Secondly, we helped serve meals for the homeless at the Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. With DV’s Club Day coming up, we are so excited to welcome our members, old or new, for another year of Interact!

SRV Community

The Interact club of San Ramon Valley had a great first year! Going into our second year, we have three projects and two fundraisers planned out. We are starting off the year with helping senior citizens learn about technology. We will then raise money to buy Christmas presents for kids in the Oakland Children’s Hospital. Lastly, we will be raising money for an organization of our choice that we will decide later on. Our fundraisers include a Rocky Mountain fudge fundraiser where we are working with a business that sells candy apples and fudge. We are also doing a Tips for Change fundraiser. SRV Community looks forward to what the year will bring for us!

Monte Vista

Monte Vista Interact held the year’s first officer meeting during August. At the meeting, the ten officers discussed future activities and brainstormed new ways to have members be more involved. While the final activities list hasn’t been finalized yet, we decided that we wanted to participate in Wheelchair Week, wrap angel gifts in December, collect school supplies, along with other volunteering activities. We’re excited for the Club Fair and are planning on making announcements and posters to spread the word about the club and recruit new members!

SRV HS

During the month of August the San Ramon Valley High School officers attended a Danville Rotary meeting for their officer induction ceremony. The officers began to sort and wash donated soccer gear to send to children in Central America and Africa. San Ramon Valley High School is currently getting ready to recruit future Interactors at their club fair on September 8th!

California HS

Things at Cal High Interact have officially kicked into gear! The club promotional booth at the school walk-in registration brought in an influx of new members across all grades, contributing to a fantastic turnout at our first meeting on Wednesday, August 23rd. Our annual Crayon Initiative drive has also opened and will continue throughout the month of September for Interactors to donate old crayons to be remelted into new ones for the less-fortunate. A ton of volunteering events are also lined up for the upcoming month. This Interact year is certainly off to a great start!
